8 Things You Should Shred Right Now!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2014

You can never be too safe when it comes to protecting your identity. Here is a reminder of things that you really should shred, NOW!

Old Tax Returns – keep them for 3 or 4 years. Then you should be safe to shred, unless you’re suspected of fraud – eek!

Old Bank Statements – keep to verify balances and transactions, then they are safe to shred. It is also a good idea to have them emailed to avoid the risk of them being stolen from your mailbox.

Credit Card Offers – either take advantage of the offer or shred it right away. Don’t want someone else opening up a card in your name.

Old Photo IDs – if you dispose of them, make sure they are shredded! Remember the old licenses had your social security number on them.

Pay Stubs – there is so much information on your pay stubs that would be criminals could benefit from – last deposit amount, health insurance info, place of employment, etc.

Convenience Checks – I can’t believe they still mail these. Use them right away or shred them!

Cancelled Checks – Remember, your account info is still on these checks even if you write VOID.

Cancelled Credit Cards – Remember to cut the magnetic strip with the encoded info!
